Triticale cultivars and seeding rates affect wheat stem sawfly survivorship and parasitism by Bracon cephi

چکیده
Several insects, including the wheat stem sawfly ( Cephus cinctus Norton, Hymenoptera: Cephidae), interfere with biomass and grain production of triticale (× Triticosecale). We conducted a 2-year study in southern Alberta to compare cultivars Pronghorn AC Ultima at 200 400 seeds/m 2 terms damage incidence parasitoid wasp Bracon cephi Gahan, Braconidae). Plants seeded high rate were on average less damaged than those Pronghorn, had more parasitoids. was characterized by solid pith development lumen, compared it can be considered adequate germplasm for resistant cultivars.

Solid-Stemmed Wheat Does Not Affect Overwintering Mortality of the Wheat Stem Sawfly, Cephus cinctus
The wheat stem sawfly, Cephus cinctus Norton (Hymenoptera: Cephidae), is a key pest of wheat in the northern Great Plains of North America. Host plant resistance in the form of solid-stemmed wheat cultivars is the main control strategy for C. cinctus. This study investigated the effect of novel and traditional solid wheat hosts on the overwintering mortality and cold-hardiness of C. cinctus. Fi...
متن کاملInfluence of Fusarium and Wheat Stem Sawfly Infestation on Volatile Compounds Production by Wheat Plants
Plants that were infested by the wheat stem sawfly emitted significantly increased amounts of the secondary metabolites linalool, linalool oxide, ß-farnesene, ß-caryophyllene, and 4-heptanone in comparison to uninfested plants. Wheat plants parasitized by Fusarium species also have emitted volatiles. The amount of volatiles released varied by infective species of Fusarium and volatile patterns ...

Assembly and Annotation of Transcriptome Provided Evidence of miRNA Mobility between Wheat and Wheat Stem Sawfly
Wheat Stem Sawfly (WSS), Cephus Cinctus Norton (Hymenoptera: Cephidae), is one of the most important pests, causing yield and economic losses in wheat and barley. The lack of information about molecular mechanisms of WSS for defeating plant's resistance prevents application of effective pest control strategies therefore, it is essential to identify the genes and their regulators behind WSS infe...
متن کاملParasitism of Nonhost Cultivars by Ditylenchus dipsaci.
The alfalfa race of Ditylenchus dipsaci parasitized and caused characteristic symptoms on nonhost seedlings of sweet clover, onion, tomato, sugarbeet, and wheat in controlled growth-chamber studies. Although the nematode was unable to reproduce on any of the cultivars, it caused plant mortality ranging from 20% on sugarbeet and tomato to 100% on onion.
